FREE LOVE MOVEMENT

Postby ### » Mon Jan 23, 2012 3:26 pm

Every social movement is fundamentally a free love movement, a cultural revolution is first of all a sexual revolution.

"If desire is repressed, it is because every position of desire, no matter how small, is capable of calling into question the established order of a society: not that desire is asocial, on the contrary. But it is explosive; there is no desiring-machine capable of being assembled without demolishing entire social sectors. Despite what some revolutionaries think about this, desire is revolutionary in its essence — desire, not left-wing holidays! — and no society can tolerate a position of real desire without its structures of exploitation, servitude, and hierarchy being compromised."

Detailed Removal Reason - SEE REPORT AT END OF THREAD - This image was not removed for its relatively innocuous substance but rather the context that it has been used. You can view this picture in a link further down in the thread if needed. The picture of a naked family presented in a sexual context is inappropriate and is the reason for removal.

Shaheer, I like your questions. I notice you mentioned Age of Concent reform. I definately want to address some of your issues, and not get side-tracked in a free-speech debate. But unfortunately, the admin may be temporarilly confused about phpBB company TOS meaning, Canadian law, or the significance of sexuality to social change. It looked like the site admin had deleted an image on the basis that the image violates a TOS. How so?

Before visible political activism like MLK and others you mention happens, Shaheer, there tends to be what Harris Mirkin* called "the struggle for the struggle": that's the struggle for class-consciousness, vocabulary, and a space for expression. I guess there's not any point having a conversation about the revolutionary future of intimacy and sexual expression on the #occupy discussion forum if it's going to be censored. Interestingly Shaheer, some anthropologist or sociologist researchers have interpreted incest-taboo and ageist sexual repressiveness as being really central to the emurgence and maintnance of capitalism, property, authority, contractualism, and so on.

The image is of a man, a woman, a girl, and a boy, standing next to one another; they wear shoes and hats. Some might assume it is a family; the image is black and white and repeated three [3] times like Andy Worhol factory production style.

This image is legal in Canada.

This image is permitted on phpBB ® Forum © boards.

A lot of people feel uncomfortable talking about our sexuality. Meanwhile, it is legal in Canada and ok on phpBB boards to discuss and post about sexuality, especially when moral betterment, art, and education are the motive. There being some space for free-expression, Shaheer, is the prerequisite for meaningful progressive discussion...

    PAOV ACCOUNT UNDER REVIEW REPORT

I apologize for not being able to bring this forward earlier as I was out of victoria and was managing the communication tools from the mainland.

This persons account is under review for the following:

It has been regularly noted that this person has repeatedly made assertions that their top goal is to create a free
speech zone with no censorship and no code of conduct. They have repeatedly behaved in a threatening
manner physically and verbally in view of many witnesses. Furthermore this person has repeatedly spoken to
multiple individuals on a one to one basis regarding their top priority of free speech they wish to pursue. The
context has varied per individual however certain trends remain unchanged, first we are sexually repressed as a
society and second incest along with age of consent laws are oppressive. He has continually indicated that this
is his primary issue to fix in our broken system of law and he has become more and more disruptive as less and
less people are willing to engage him on these topics. This cause has been repeatedly referred to by the person
as the “Free Love Movement.” Using our open communication email lists he began to send links to literature
supposedly in line with his ambitions for change. On the public forum he posted a picture of a naked family
sourced from a pro-nudist webpage accompanied by a quote from a paper on Social and Psychic Repression.
The image was removed by a forum Moderator citing the agreed Terms of Service and this person reposted the
image citing it is a legal image in Canada.

FINAL ACTIONS TAKEN on forum user acct ### and corresponding email for this person
The image was removed and the user account placed under review and disabled as per the forum Terms of
    Service.
The email address was removed from the lists previously spammed and emails lists were modified not to accept
emails from outside recipients not on the list with the exception of calendar@paov.ca and finance@paov.ca .
The user has not been removed from the email list of nvc@paov.ca which is the group they have been most
active in promoting, Non Violent Communication.

The entire forum discussion has not been edited and is available to the public with a link to the offending image
for those who wish to review.

    FURTHER OUTCOMES
I would like PAOV to direct some sort of policy in these matters as I had no directions to follow in response to
the many individuals that were indicating to me as a member of the Tech Workgroup that they were
fundamentally opposed to the way our communication tools were being utilized and would rather leave the
movement if no response was made. The response I’ve made is similar to International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA’s) official public stance against paedophilia and commitment to the
protection of children as demonstrated in their denial of membership to NAMBLA and other individual groups
with similar goals in support of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
    I take full responsibility and
accountability for these changes as committed member of the People’s Assembly of Victoria and would hope
receive an endorsement from the PAOV to continue managing these communication web applications.

Survey and Interviews of Occupiers Show Common Tactics, Infiltrators

I have highlighted the character traits applying to user R###

    1. Disruptions of the General Assemblies and attempts to divide the group. Individuals would interrupt General Assemblies with emergency items or sidetrack the agenda with their personal needs or issues. When proposals were presented to the General Assembly on principles for the occupation or plans to prevent division, individuals would question the authority of the writers of the proposal, launch personal attacks or question their abilities. There were frequent attacks on people who did the most work and were perceived as leaders. The anti-leadership views of many Occupiers were used to essentially attack the most effective people. Sue Basko wrote about this in Los Angeles in a comment on a Chris Hedges article, writing that there was an “ongoing campaign of harassment and coercion against the Occupy L.A. participants and volunteers. Each day is a fresh set of victims.” She describes the use of Twitter, Listservs and blogs to “defame and harass anyone giving their efforts to help Occupy L.A.” This has included attacks on “social media workers, the website team, the lawyers (including me), the medics, the live streamers, the writers and on and on.” She also writes that “there is the very strong belief that some among them are FBI or DHS [Department of Homeland Security] agents placed there to start the group, egg it on, control it.” Conversations with others in Los Angeles confirmed this report. Our experience in the area of personal attacks included outlandish lies calling us criminals and thieves and near daily email attacks since early December. We found that when we respond and correct lies, it does not stop them and have concluded that if someone has the intention to be a character assassin there is nothing you can do except expose them. Although that does not necessarily stop them, it at least gets those in the occupation who are not gullible to doubt the undocumented personal attacks.

    2. Individuals who took over the website and/or social media and then removed them or hacked them and took control. As noted above, these networks have been used in personal attacks, as well as to send inaccurate messages to the media and other Occupiers. One mistake made is to allow a large number of people to have administrative privileges on the website. Being an administrator allows people to erase crucial information as occurred in Phoenix. In Washington, D.C., we have been removed as administrators of a Facebook page we created because we allowed people who turned out to be untrustworthy to have administrative privileges. People can blog or post to Facebook or websites without being administrators. User R### wants control over the website, but has been denied

Division over how money was being spent was an issue reported by 50 percent of respondents, and in 12 out of 15 occupations, individuals persistently questioned transparency and use of funds. In General Assemblies in New York and Philadelphia, we saw disruption by people who complained about money issues. In New York, an argument about access to free MetroCards resulted in a 30 minute argument. In Philadelphia, it was a vague complaint about “where is the money?” We saw something similar at a 99 percent’s meeting in San Francisco where one of the questioners complained about missing money. And, we have seen the same in Washington, D.C., with false accusations of missing money. Sometimes these disruptors seem like homeless or emotionally disturbed individuals. They could be acting out their concerns or they could be encouraged by police to attend meetings to cause disruption and may be paid a small amount to do so. Whether paid or not, the impact is the same—it takes the Occupy off of its political agenda and turns people off to participating in the movement.
